Myatt & Co weekly update

Tuesday 12th March 2024

Hello colleague,

We hope you're enjoying your Myatt & Co subscription. We've handpicked some video content for you, which we hope you find helpful:

Liz Pemberton discusses the need for anti-racist practice to be enacted in early years settings. In this conversation with Bennie Kara, Liz draws on her experience as a Black nursery manager and her own background to explore how practitioners can embed anti-racist practice with EYFS children, and why it is so important for their development and well-being. Watch here.

Willshaw discuss the Ofsted report on geography education, emphasising the importance of place, substantive and procedural knowledge, and the distinction between specification and curriculum. They also emphasise the need for teachers to focus on aspects of the report within their control and utilise resources like GIS maps to enhance their teaching. Watch here.

The importance of literacy for all. Chantal and Jonathan Bryan together with Sarah Giles talk about their charity ‘Teach Us Too’. It was founded by Jonathan in 2018 at the same time that his first book ‘Eye Can Write’ was published. It tells the story of his journey to becoming literate. The charity was set up to promote the rights of other children, like Jonathan, to a literacy education within their school settings. Watch here - free to access.
