Myatt & Co weekly update

Hello colleague,

I hope the new year has started well for you.

Here are some films that we hope you will find helpful.

If you need some background to the history units you are teaching, then Glenn Carter of History Rocks has produced 15 short recordings to bring you up to speed. You can watch these here.

Oracy has gone up on the agenda and in this conversation Amanda Uffendell talks to Rachel Higginson about how she has worked in her secondary school to make sure oracy is developed. She explains how she built a culture of belonging, creating the conditions for pupils to feel confident to speak. She also talks about the way in which she taught students ‘to talk and listen’ developing self-awareness and greater understanding of the sophisticated art of communication. You can watch this here.

In case you missed it, I had a wonderful conversation with Ellise Hayward about what it’s like to be a student with cerebral palsy. She is very insightful, it was great to hear how supportive her teachers were and what she believes makes a difference to help pupils with barriers access the curriculum. Her eye-gaze means that her words and ideas are voiced by the computer. Ellise has chosen the Queen as her ‘voice’ and she’s absolutely hilarious! You can watch this for free here.
