Myatt & Co weekly update
Tuesday 18th June
Hello colleague,
We hope you're enjoying your Myatt & Co subscription. We've handpicked some video content for you, which we hope you find helpful:
Rachel Bulkley-Jones gives a rich overview of how to go about understanding the current curriculum offer in school and how to begin developing this. She also talks about how the curriculum she developed in her previous school which proactively responded to some serious challenges in the local community. A powerful example of responsive curriculum work. Watch here.
Jennifer Webb explains the approach to literacy and reading that she has developed in her school. This recording acts as an introduction to five of the Secondary Subject Network meetings this term (science, ADT, computing/media/enterprise, PE/health and social care, and English) which will be led by subject leaders from her school in Wakefield.
The discussion covers:
rationale for the focus on reading
background to Jennifer’s school and MAT
issue she was dealing with
changes Jennifer initiated
steps taken to maintain momentum
impact and next steps.

Informed debate is the fuel of curriculum development. Developmental curriculum conversations between senior leaders and subject leaders can take several forms; the best conversations are organic.
Once you begin a dialogue with a subject leader the conversation usually develops its own energy and direction. So, once senior leaders know why they are discussing the curriculum with subject leaders, there are, arguably, seven starting points for these conversations. Watch here.
