New teaching resources now ready to download

There are pretty strong reactions when I share the headlines of the ‘Faster Read’ pilot from the University of Sussex:

• Mean comprehension for all students increased by 8.5 months after 12 weeks of reading 2 novels at a fast pace in English lessons

• ‘Struggling readers’ mean comprehension improved by 16 months

• One student echoed other students’ responses, saying he was ‘excited’ to read ‘because you don’t quite know what’s going to happen next and you can’t wait to find out’.

Similar results have been replicated in Nene Park Academy.

I’ve been asked, if improvements can happen in English, why not in the other subjects? Schools using the book suggestions and planning units from The Teachers’ Collection are saying that pupils are engaged and discussing big ideas in the foundations subject.

There’s been demand for some time for similar resources for KS3, so we’ve just published the teacher resources and pupils booklets for the first unit for Y7 history ‘The Norman Conquest’.
