Chris Such is one of the foremost researchers, practitioners and thinkers in the teaching of reading. His first book The Art and Science of Teaching Primary Reading became an essential guide across the sector.

Chris has now written a follow up Primary Reading Simplified: A Practical Guide to Classroom Teaching and Whole-School Implementation.

In this collection of films, Chris talks with Rachel Higginson about the ‘science’ of reading, why it’s important that educators have a shared understanding of this; how pupils’ reading skills evolve, how to make sure that classroom practice supports pupils’ reading and how to embed across the whole school.

What’s particularly helpful is that Chris advocates taking time, having clarity about establishing reading as a priority and how to support colleagues with a shared understanding both of the underlying principles and ways of bringing to life in lessons.
